About this tour

Venture beyond the postcard pictures of Kashmir and discover its best-kept secret. The Tosa Maidan trek is an unforgettable journey into the heart of an enormous, pristine meadow, a place untouched by mainstream tourism and bursting with natural beauty and nomadic culture. If you are looking to escape the crowds and experience the raw, authentic wilderness of the Himalayas, this is the adventure for you.

For centuries, Tosa Maidan was a fabled pasture, used by shepherds and as a route for ancient caravans. Now open for explorers, it reveals a breathtaking landscape of rolling green hills, dense pine forests, and sparkling streams, all set against a backdrop of snow-capped peaks. This trek takes you from the charming village of Baderkote into this lost world.

With Wildsnow, you won’t just see the sights; you’ll experience the soul of the place. We’ll camp under a canopy of a billion stars, share tea with friendly Gujjar shepherds, and walk trails that few have tread. Our expert local team handles all the logistics, so you can fully immerse yourself in the adventure.

Itinerary

Our team will greet you at Srinagar Airport and we'll drive to the picturesque town of Tangmarg, the gateway to Gulmarg. The drive itself is beautiful, moving from the city into the mountains. We'll check into a comfortable hotel, giving you time to acclimatize and make any last-minute purchases. In the evening, your trek leader will give a detailed briefing about the exciting days ahead.

After breakfast, a short drive takes us to the starting point of our trek in Drung. The trail begins with a gentle ascent through a fragrant pine and fir forest. You'll hear the sound of the river and the chirping of birds as we make our way to the beautiful meadow of Danwas. This is our campsite for the night, a peaceful spot with lovely views.

Today, the real magic begins. As we trek uphill from Danwas, the forests give way to vast, open grasslands. You will get your first glimpse of the sheer scale of Tosa Maidan. We will set up our camp at a stunning vantage point, offering panoramic views of the entire meadow. The afternoon is free to relax and soak in the incredible scenery.

This is a day for exploration. Leaving our main luggage at the campsite, we will take only our daypacks and hike deep into the heart of Tosa Maidan. We'll walk to viewpoints, visit the camps of the local shepherds, and maybe even see the source of the Sukhnag river. This relaxed day allows us to fully appreciate the beauty of the "King of Meadows."

After a final mountain breakfast with spectacular views, we begin our descent. We will trek back down to the road-head at Drung. The walk down offers a different perspective of the beautiful landscape. From Drung, our vehicles will be waiting to drive you back to Srinagar, where you will check into a hotel or houseboat.

After breakfast, our team will drop you at Srinagar Airport for your flight home, with a heart full of memories from one of Kashmir's most special treks.

Tosa Maidan Trek – A Soulful Escape into Kashmir’s Meadows

we enjoyed WildSnow’s 6-day Tosa Maidan trek in the summer of 2025, and it was pure magic. The meadows were endless, the lakes pristine, and the trail offered just the right mix of challenge and serenity. Our guides were knowledgeable and kind, making the journey smooth and memorable. Each campsite felt like a postcard—especially the one near Godsar Lake. If you’re craving nature, solitude, and a touch of adventure, this trek is a hidden gem
